The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA as it is most often called, is the process through which a non-Catholic adult may learn more about the Catholic faith. Through a program of study and prayer, the individual seeks to know God’s will in their lives.
To become Catholic means to enter into full communion with the Church that Jesus established. Jesus chose 12 apostles and entrusted to them the fullness of His good news. It is the faith of the apostles the Church proclaims today.
Before a person can make a profession of faith, they must have a foundation upon which to base that profession. The RCIA program provides that foundation. Through prayer, study and discussion, those in the RCIA go through a series of developmental stages that allows them to grow in the Love of God and to better understand God’s call in their lives.
RCIA is for adults who have never been baptized, for persons baptized in another Christian tradition who desire to become Catholic, and for adults baptized Catholic and desire to receive the sacraments of Holy Communion and/or Confirmation.
Our Directors of RCIA at Blessed Sacrament are Jim and Susan Conover. We are tremendously blessed to have two such faith-filled people to guide and inspire those who desire to know the faith. Jim and Susan are talented catechists but their major impact upon the program is to lead by example.
