Remember in your prayers: Mary Sexton, Jo Ellen’s mom, Mary Ellen, Norma Cartwright, Dolores Hayden, the Boniewski family, Lonnie Howard, Katie Kon, Mary Beth Norris, Carla Stawiarski, and Sharon Simpson. Also remember in your prayers the homebound, those in nursing homes, those who have no one to pray for them, and those who have unspoken prayer requests.
Norma Cartwright has moved from the Knoxville facility. She is now living with her daughter and son-in-law at their new home in Jacksboro, Tennessee. (About 40 miles north of Knoxville.)

Archbishop Kurtz was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer that will ultimately lead to the removal of both his prostate and bladder. He has been accepted into an experimental treatment program at Duke University. As you know, the Archbishop served this diocese with distinction for nine years. He will celebrate his 73
rd birthday on August 18. Archbishop Kurtz has asked for our prayers.

Question#127: What does the word
Lent mean? Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Holy Saturday when the Easter Vigil begins. But that is 46 days. Isn't Lent 40 days long?
Answer: The word
Lent comes from the Old English word
lencten, meaning "spring season." The Church does not count Sundays as Lenten days. Sunday's are sometimes called "Little Easters." Technically, the abstinences you chose as a personal Lenten observance may be enjoyed on the Sundays of Lent. However, most Catholics maintain their personal abstinences until after the Easter Vigil is complete.
Question #128: In the celebration of the sacrament of Holy Matrimony, who may be the ministers?
(The answer will appear in next week's bulletin along with a new question)
