*Father Michael's "Penny Catechism"(A fun and informative little morsel of Catholic teaching and trivia)*
(Last week’s question along with the answer:) Question #168: During the sacrament of penance, (confession) the penitent offers an "act of contrition." What is contrition? Answer:The Catechism defines it this way: Contrition is "sorrow of the soul and detestation for the sin committed, together with the resolution not to sin again." (CCC 1451) When it arises from a love by which God is loved above all else, contrition is called "perfect" (contrition of charity). Such contrition remits venial sins; it also obtains forgiveness of mortal sins if it includes the firm resolution to have recourse to sacramental confession as soon as possible. (CCC 1452) Question #169:What is general absolution? (The answer will appear in next week’s page along with a new question)
